In Lifeboat (Denmark, 2018) we meet Iben and her new, younger boyfriend on a sailing holiday around the Greek islands. One night, Iben hears cries coming from the water and they pick up a Syrian woman called Amal. Her perilous journey as a boat refugee reopens old wounds from Iben’s past.
This triangulated drama gradually unfolds through assumptions, prejudices, and a desire for resonance for her own pain and experiences. Although the film is directed by Josefine Kirkeskov from Denmark, it is a Scandinavian co-production featuring Norwegian and Swedish actors including Sofia Helin from The Bridge.
