Nordic Match: Architecture and visual storytelling in migration
Kaisaniemenkatu 9, Helsinki, Suomi
How can art and architecture spur social innovation and the construction of new national identities? Meet Inanna Riccardi and Alberto Juarez, two Nordic creatives who have dedicated their careers to bringing cultures closer together by collaborating with a variety of vulnerable target groups.
Alberto Juarez rose like a comet among young architects, going from creating housing prototypes for migrants at the US/Mexican border, to starting his own office in central Oslo. He will present his work in creating housing, taking into account concrete needs as in migration. Some of Alberto’s models will be on display during the event.
Inanna Riccardi, a visual artist and anthropologist from Denmark, coached workshops and created collective visual stories in, among others, migrant communities. The narratives created in her workshops are also used to challenge policymakers in their pre-conceptions about fragile target groups. Her book documenting the process will be on display.
The presentations will be followed by a discussion, in which the audience and the artists can share and compare their experiences. You can hear the other three guests in Nordic Match on Friday morning over brunch at the Nordic Culture Point.
The event is a part of Nordic Match, a creative networking platform and pop-up think tank, which takes place in Helsinki between 8 and 12 April. The theme of the week is migration.
