First gathering of Volt experts
Last week, the four experts for the Volt grant program met for the first time in Helsinki. Together they will decide which of the applications are granted funds. The group consists of two experts who have been involved in allocating funds for the Culture and Art Program in the past, as well as two younger cultural connoisseurs who have not previously been involved in the decision-making process. These younger experts will represent the interests of the youth – which is Volt’s target group.
The group’s chairman, Rebecca, is a youth coach and a student. “I’m from a small community in the Åland archipelago,” she says. “Working with Volt is so exciting because it allows for opportunities to influence what sort of cultural expressions that reaches society.”
Another of the assessors, Berit Anne Larsen, looks forward to seeing how the projects develop, considering their high degree of youth participation. “It’s not something you see too often here in the Nordic region,” she explains. “The cultural field certainly has plenty of projects that concern young people, but few that are actively driven by them.”
In the weeks to come, the four experts will review the applications and decide who will be awarded a grant. Their decisions will be announced towards the end of summer, on the 17th of August.
