Keynote: Andri Snær Magnason: On Time and Water – The language of climate change (ISL)

Andri Snær Magnason

Andri Snær Magnason is an award-winning Icelandic author, who uses stories, fantasy and humor to explore challenges and problems in societies around the world.

Magnasson actively participates in societal debates and discussions. In 2016 he ran for President of Iceland and was the third most voted candidate. His book on climate change, On Time and Water, has been nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2021.

In his keynote speech Magnasson will focus on the future of humanity. The glaciers are melting and sea levels are rising, but people don’t really have an understanding of what this all means – or at least they are not taking necessary actions to stop the crisis. People also seem disconnected from time and long term thinking. We feel like year 2100 is a distant future, but in fact, in the year 2100 children born today should be active and in good health. The challenges those people meet are all based on our actions today.

The keynote is part of the World Village Festival in Helsinki, watch the keynote through the World Village Festival website.

The programme is available online also after the festival weekend 31.5.–4.6.2021
