This panel will give us an insight into the current lifecycle of clothes and textiles in the Nordics and worldwide. How can we prolong the life of our items and materials, and what new initiatives should we keep an eye out for?

Else Skjold (DK) is an associate professor, PhD and Head of KLOTHING – Centre for Apparel, Textiles and Ecology Research at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. She is one of the leading voices in the public debate on circularity and sustainability in the fashion and textiles sector in Denmark, within the particular field of user-led design strategies and systemic change that is her core research area. She has recently been appointed lead of the textiles area in the newly established national research partnership on circular economy for plastics and textiles; TRACE.
Mimmi van der Crussen (SV/NO) is the founder of KUPP – Norway’s first sustainable fabric store, selling only deadstock materials from furniture factories. Mimmi is a creative soul born in Sweden. While working as a retail designer she gained an insight into how large amounts of leftover textiles from production of upholstered furniture had nowhere else to go but to landfill. This is why she started the KUPP fabric store, to give a new chance to these textiles. KUPP is Mimmi’s passion project in addition to her daily work at Hos Arne — an independent gallery and culture arena inspired by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Næss.
Helena Dahlbo D.Sc. (Tech.) (FI) is a senior research scientist at SYKE, the Finnish Environment Institute. She is specialized in waste management and circular economy solutions and their environmental impacts. Currently working on the PlastLIFE project to promote the implementation of the Plastic Roadmap for Finland and Finix project where solutions for increasing the sustainability of textiles systems are developed.
